Writing is a solitary experience. You write something and you send it out into the world and then other people have their own solitary experience with your words. It rarely feels like a shared experience.

So I’ve started participating with words in a new way. Last month, I read something I wrote onstage for the first time. I was nauseous for days before. On Saturday night, I read something I wrote for the second time while shaking like a leaf in mid-grade hurricane.

It was the kind of fear that says, you really need to do this.

Reading something you wrote to people who are in the same room, rather than sending something out where people can pick it up from their pixelated box in solitude, is a whole new experience. I could hear and feel people react, I could feel supported as my words went out to support others. It’s a new level of sharing, and one I really like.

So I want to do more of it. Submit to places
